Getting News Updates About NICS Resources

NICS sends news updates about important events on the Kraken system: scheduled maintenance, hardware problems, unexpected system-wide outages, etc. If you have a XSEDE login, you may already be receiving these messages via XSEDE news or subscribe to the NICS news email list.

XSEDE News

If you have a XSEDE login and have not been receiving email notices about Kraken from XSEDE news, please do the following:

  • Login to the XSEDE Portal
  • If you don't remember your portal login or password, contact help@xsede.org.
  • Under "My XSEDE" there is a tab for "Profile". The email address that is listed is your official XSEDE email address. This is the only address that can be registered with XSEDE news. To change this address, click on the "Edit Profile" option at the bottom center of that page.

Once you have ensured that your email address on the XSEDE portal is correct, go to: "Documentation -> User News" which is https://www.xsede.org/group/xup/user-news

  • In the left-hand column, under "Subscription Services", click on "Manage Email Subscription"
  • Enter your XSEDE email address that you provided in the above steps and click "Manage" on the right hand side
  • Select the categories to which you want to subscribe (or unsubscribe). To get news about the Kraken system, select "Subscribe" next to "NICS", then click on SAVE.
